SURF TRIP / Surf Equipment checklist.

So you have decided to go on a surf trip, If it's not your first, you will know that there are some key items that will make or break the mission. Choosing destination and checking the weather / swell , size / direction for that specific area is a must. You can chat to people you know who have been there or locals that live there. Also you can use vital downloadable apps like WINDYhttps://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=co.windyapp.android&hl=en&gl=US and Magic Seaweed https://magicseaweed.com/app/ These will enable you to search for a specific beach break or secret spot in any country in the world and check the conditions for up to almost 2 weeks in advance. An incredible tool if you are old enough to remember the days when there was no mobile phones and one had to measure the atmospheric pressure with technical manual equipment to predict oncoming swell changes.

Travel bags for boards and equipment. Whether you are staying local or heading abroad, It is always a good idea to invest in a coffin type bag if you are taking more than 2 boards, these bags are well protected / padded and have compartments to slide a number of boards into sleeves , kind of like a CD cover. Remembering to take fins out of the surfboards when doing so as to maximize space and minimize damage. It is also a good idea to pack your soft goods like clothing towels wetsuits etc into the boardbags to do the same.

Waterproof backpacks or bags help contain dry goods like phoned , cameras and clothing when you are at the beach surfing , whether you are on a boat or in bad weather these can also be a life saver when the weather and elements strike unexpectedly.

Sun Protection is a big one , Surf Hats that are comfortable to wear whilst in the water that protect the head , face and neck are a must have product. Sun Block in the form of a cream or mud are easy to apply and try and make sure you go for a brand that is friendly to the environment. Alot of the products that are not do tend to be oily and slippery and definitely not condusive to any type of wave riding.

Wetsuits if needed must be the correct thickness and type for your destination. From 5mm thick with built in hoods , Gloves and booties to keep the entire body warm in Icy windy conditions. Ear Plugs for ear protection.

To thinner 4/3 mm or even 3/2mm thick suits for moderate cold water .

2mm Short leg or short arm wetsuits in warmer waters fro about 17 degrees up .

In tropical conditions I find the best to be your baggies or swimwear and a rash vest or T/Shirt to stop any rash from turning into a problem.

Other smaller items can be super important too like the correct wax for the board for the specific water temp you will be in. Leashes older than a few years are most probably going to snap in heavier waves so purchase fresh leashes and always carry spare.
